A Bland Meal – no recipe

Published by myamii under Food Images w/o Recipes

As I promised yesterday…

This is what I was finally able to eat after being sick for a week. I know it looks so boring, but it was like a feast for me. Kind of makes me laugh in retrospect.

In case you are wondering what it all is:
a few slices of ham
some mashed sweet potato
plain jasmine rice

Now my little guy has the stomach flu and it seems to be hitting him slightly harder than it hit me, but the crazy thing is that in between he is still hungry and wants to eat! He runs around, laughs, smiles – like nothing happened…then he gets sick, and 10 minutes later he’s back at it…amazing. Simply amazing.

So, I am swamped again with a million things to do. I will be back tomorrow with some more recipes!

Homemade Sports Drink – copycat Gatorade – recipe

Homemade Sports Drink, originally uploaded by my_amii.

Hi everyone, I’m back again. My stomach flu took a turn for the worse after being better for a day in a half. But, all is well again and I can finally eat.

I was pretty dehydrated with the lose of fluids, so my husband made a great copycat Gatorade recipe that he found (but cannot remember where he found it). All I know is that it really helped and tasted good.

Tomorrow I will share with you the first “meal” I had after not eating for a whole week…

TasteSpotting Down – Update

Published by myamii under Food For Thought, Information

I received an email from Jean of TasteSpotting today letting me know that there was an update on TasteSpotting.com as to what was going on.

So, it’s not about copyright enfringement…and we are promised more info as soon as legally possible. So, keep checking back for more info.

In the mean time, Jean has started another site called Liqurious www.liqurious.com that semi mimics TasteSpotting minus the food.

Will keep you posted as more info comes in.

Bbq Chicken, Grilled Zucchini, & Curry Cream Rice – recipes

It’s definitely summer time around here! I don’t own a grill, but I do have a great broiler integrated into my oven that I love to use.

Because of that my oven looks really dirty, but, to be honest, I don’t clean it because all the burnt pieces give my food a nice charcoal flavor “sans” (without) charcoal. And, it doesn’t affect the flavor of my baked goods. It’s the best of both worlds.

So, those bits on the zucchini are not some great spice concoction I came up with, but rather the crispy left-overs from the chicken I had just grilled before it – mm mm mm!

The BBQ Chicken recipe is the same as my BBQ chicken wings recipe from a few months ago, just on regular chicken legs.

The grilled zucchini recipe and curry cream rice recipes are bellow: Continue Reading »

Spam Attack

Published by myamii under Food For Thought, Information

Hi everyone. Some of you have noticed and let me know that post content has gone missing and that my RSS Feed has stopped working.

After closer examination, it seems that my blog has been spamed by some malicious bastard.

I have changed my passwords everywhere, and tomorrow we will start trying to restore the database. So, I am just letting you know that it may take a while until everything is back up to normal. Luckily, I have a minutely affected back-up, so it will just take time.

If you are the spammer who has been ruining my lovely blog by writing over my posts, I hope that you find cockroaches in your shoes the next time you slip your feet in!

TasteSpotting Down :( – nooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s right…you read that correctly. Our favorite stop for inspiration and personal blog promotion is gone forever. I could just sit and cry….

I woke up this morning to see if my last submission had been accepted to only find this note on the page. I reloaded and reloaded…this must be some prank or error…it can’t be true. TasteSpotting can’t be gone!

I searched through Google and found a few other bloggers had written about this same surprise, so it’s not a joke…

I don’t know what happened, but I would like to dedicate this post to TasteSpotting. I mean, I literally owe them my blog’s life. Without TasteSpotting, I’d still only have 30 readers a month (instead of over 50,000!!). Who knows, I may have given up by now if it weren’t for the TasteSpotting “bump” that my blog was given by giving me a place to, basically, advertise my own blog. I know many of you feel the same.

I hope it’s not some jerk suing NotCot because some blogger posted an image that was copy righted.  I, personally, like Creative Commons (find out more here).  I mean, who doesn’t want free advertising????

For nostalgic purposes…here are some round-ups that you can still find on the NotCot site: Continue Reading »

As I mentioned yesterday, I made a huge version of the fruit tart that I blogged about a few days ago. Since the original recipe that I provided still give you all that you need for this one (no increase necessary), I will not post the recipe again.

This time I tried a few new things: Continue Reading »

Grill Party at the Garden

Well, on Friday I was voted in with an overwhelming majority as the First Chairperson (erste Vorsitzender), or president, of the Inter-Cultural Garden that I am part of. Friday was also the founding meeting when we became an incorporated society (e.V. – eingetragener Verein). Needless to say I have A LOT of work ahead of me; with estimates of at least 3 months of paper work to take care of!!

Anyways, to celebrate our official unity we threw a grill party where everyone chipped in. Nermin and Draschko roasted the pig in the new bbq oven that they built, and everyone brought a side dish. I brought a huge fruit tart (see recipe here).

My little guy had a really great time playing with all the other kids for hours on end. It’s really nice to have a place where he can run around in a nice wide open space. The other day he was being extra cute with his limited communications skills. He brought his sandals to the front door, then came and got me, took me by the hand to the front door, clapped (his ASL hand-sign version of “open”) and pointed to the door. I was so thrilled that I put my shoes on, grabbed my bag, and took him to the garden! I mean, he’s 15 months old (that’s 1 year and 1/4th) and he is trying very hard to communicate properly, so I wanted to use positive reinforcement for him communicating.

Anyone who is interested in baby sign-language, feel free to ask me. I will be more than happy to tell you the positive and “negatives” (there are few negative…just once the learn how to get you to do what they want they can really abuse it sometimes).

Here is my little guy being mad that he has to be away from playing to eat…life it so hard sometimes….
