I’d like to introduce you to a fairly new blog on the blogosphere: the Good Mood Food blog.
The other day while Stumbling I came across a blog that caught my eye. The bright green, the layed-back-ness of the theme, the amazing food photos…the whole look and feel of the blog reminds me of my high school days. Do you remember when you were (if you aren’t still) in school and you used to doodle on your note pads, paint cool things in art class, draw “tattoos” on yourself, hang-up pictures of the people you wished you looked like…that’s the feeling I get when I look at this blog as a whole (in a good way). It just takes me back while taking me forward at the same time. It’s very refreshing.
1. How/why did you get into blogging?
I have always been surrounded by food, my parents work in the fruit and vegetable industry and my aunt is a food stylist and caterer. I had planned to start a food blog in 2006 but things were still a little in the air when I moved to Sweden to be with my girlfriend. I ended up working at a restaurant there briefly, but it was actually when we moved back to Ireland and got our own place, that I started blogging about food. Since then no guest can eat at our place until their food has been thoroughly photographed!
2. Where did you get the idea/inspiration for your blog theme?? Do you get asked this a lot??
Actually you are one of the first! Blogspot’s are pretty hard to customise if you don’t know what your doing, and I certainly didn’t! I wanted the blog to be more inviting to look at, and for it to reflect my style of cooking. The recipe’s I write, are for cooking at home, so I wanted to make sure the design carried that idea through it. I actually drew out the design on paper before I did anything and basically tried to incorporate as much of it as blogger and my technical skills would allow! I found my original drawing the other day and it doesn’t look too far off what I have now!
3. For those of us who have yet to make any of your recipes, which one recipe would you recommend to try first?
Oh that’s a hard one! Maybe the Crispy Sweet Potato Wedges? There my favourite little snack! As a main you have to try the Cajun salmon- you’ll never go back!
4. Is the food you cook mostly Irish? Do you find yourself tweaking your recipes to be more Irish, or do you like to keep them as they are?
I like to use Irish ingredients (fresh veg, in season meat) as much as possible- but I don’t think my recipe’s are very Irish at all! I have a soft spot for Asian cuisine, so I have to stop myself posting only recipe’s which include, chilli, ginger and garlic!
5. Is there anything else you can think of that you could share with us about yourself?
At the moment, I’m writing a book for a publishing company in Ireland, so hopefully you’ll be seeing the Good Mood Food cookbook on shelves next year!
In a response email Donal has promised to keep us up-to-date on his blog as to when his cookbook will be hitting the shelves.

Looks like we all have some cooking to do. If any of you have tried out any of his recipes, please let me know how they come out!! As soon as I get back from my mini vacation to DC, I will be trying some out myself and will be letting you know.
