Burnt Sweet Potato Chips – Taste&Create

Published by myamii under Taste&Create

This is the first Taste&Create recipe I have chosen that has been a big bust.

My partner Grace from A Southern Grace has lots of good-looking recipes on her blog, but the one that caught my eye right away was her recipe for baked sweet potato chips. Not only did I not have to splatter oil all over my kitchen, it would be a quick and healthy sweet snack.

I’m really not sure exactly where it went wrong. The first batch burned in 15 minutes, and after lowering the temperature twice with the second and third batches, I either ended up with half burned chips or dry raw-tasting chips.

I’m pretty sure I cut them too thin – that’s only explanation I can give because my partner’s chips look perfect. I think for now on I will just stick to sweet potato fries…

Mexican 6 Layer Dip – recipe

Even in the bitter cold months of winter, I sometimes enjoy eating cold food. This Mexican 6 layer dip is a favorite of mine because it’s really quick, flavorful, and there’s little clean-up involved.

Instead of using traditional salsa, I went ahead and used some homemade Rotel that I made last summer. For the life of me I can’t find the recipe I used and it seems I never posted it on my blog! It does give the dip a much more balanced flavor than regular salsa, so you decide. And, hopefully this summer I will have a recipe for you for some homemade Rotel.

Homemade Chocolate Sprinkle Tractor Birthday Cake – Cupcakes – recipe

Bake in November 2008 I made Cupcake Project’s Ferrero Rocher Cupcakes for the Taste&Create event that I host.  We all thought they were fantastic and I knew then that I had found an excellent cake base for my son’s birthday cake.

Today my son turned 2 years old!  I am not only happy that we have come to the two year mark, but I am happy that I finally had enough energy to make my son a homemade birthday cake.  Being able to make things in my kitchen again brings joy to my heart.

So, the cake is the same cake base from the Ferrero Rocher cupcakes, but I used a more traditional chocolate frosting instead of the hazelnut-laden Nutella frosting.  I found the Chocolate Frosting from Cupcake Bakeshop very easy to make and fulfilling.

Homemade Ranch Chicken Wings with Ranch Sour Cream Dipping Sauce – recipes

The week before the Super Bowl I was craving chicken wings so I set out to look for a recipe to satisfy my craving but not return me to abdominal distress after having been sick for 4 weeks.

In my search I came across a few recipes that I melded together to come up with this delicious baked recipe for ranch chicken wings. My largest “problem” with most of the recipes I came across was that they all called for dry ranch dressing powder. Well I don’t have access to “food” like that, and even if I did, we all know that homemade tastes better. I found everything in my spice drawer that I needed without having to plan a trip to the grocery store! Continue Reading »
