Eye Candy & a Story
I thought I’d share some nice summer-time eye candy with you while I spend a few days processing the tons of photos I took while on my vacation.
I had a really great time, but I am happy to be back home where the temperature is mild and the fruit tastes like, well, fruit!
And, that’s the story I want to tell you…
My father-in-law buys some of the most beautiful-looking fruit that I have come across in a long time. It’s the perfect color, the perfect firmness, and the perfect shape for taking pictures of food. But, it tastes like NOTHING. Pop a raspberry in your mouth and all you will taste is lightly flavored water. Now, that’s grocery store quality for you.
I am happy to be home where:
- the fruit is not so pretty, but sweet and flavorful…right off the farmer’s stand – and from my garden.
- there is no wax on my fruit to give me indigestion
- carrots taste like sticks of sugar
So, enjoy the photos and I will see you in a few days with more great stories of my vacation and some yummy recipes!

Berries are such an excellent reminder and perfect for the summer:D
Berries are always pretty!
I actually have a story that relates: I bought some raspberries two weeks ago at Green City Market. They were the sweetest most addicting and delicious raspberries I have ever tasted. I went back the next weekend just to get more because they were THAT good! But to my dismay, the farm I purchased them from the first time was sold out so I had to buy them from another farm. I tried a couple and they actually qualified as the worst raspberries I had ever eaten, worse than grocery store berries by far…. I guess it really depends on the farm!
I know what you mean about tasteless berries. I’m more and more convinced that good cooking is all about the quality of ingredients. I’m spending more and more time sourcing good quality local ingredients, and it’s paying off! Great post. Great photos!
