Taste&Create IX – T&C April Round-Up

Published by myamii at 6:00 am under Taste&Create

All submissions for the April Round-Up of Taste&Create are finally in!

I’d like to announce T&C IX (that’s 9 for those of us who are not too great with roman numerals).

I am going to do things a bit differently from now on. I will no longer be posting the rules here. Instead they can always be found here: http://forfood.rezimo.com/?page_id=581 . And, instead of commenting on the round-up posts to sign-up, you will be able to email me directly for Taste&Create at a new email address: tasteandcreate@rezimo.com . Otherwise, you guys know the rest!

Ok, before the fun stuff we have to take care of some “unpleasant” business…

  1. For April’s Taste&Create we had 44 participants, but only 36 bloggers submitted entries.  I’d like your opinion on what I can do to remedy this??  I find it unfair to those who don’t get blogged about.
  2. This is not for everyone…you know who you are:I’d also like to touch on another “issue” I’ve been having with people submitting their posts. PLEASE PLEASE attach a picture or give me the url to the picture.  DON’T expect me to go look for it in your blog post.  The same goes with your summed up phrase – Please provide one (in the email!!!).  We now have so so so many participants that I spend hours on end putting this post together, and I’m pretty sure I could shave off an hour or two if you would provide with everything I’m asking for.  I am happy to read your blog posts the next day…after a good night’s sleep!

Now, lets get to the fun stuff!  Please click “more” to see the entries!

Looks fantastic! I’ve been forgotten about for the last two Taste and Creates, so I know it’s not fun! Maybe you could send out a general reminder email a day or two before the deadline, so anyone who forgot will have a couple of days to get it in to you? That’s the only thing I can think of to remedy the situation. I’m definitely in for the next one… emailing you now!

  2. ditaon 02 May 2008 at 8:40 am

Thanks Nicole for the round up.

lovely roundup.am looking forward to the next one.

Like valli mentioned..My link isn’t going through.

  7. Arundathion 02 May 2008 at 3:09 pm

I guess I was forgotten! I loved taking part though – will definitely do it again this month – whether my partner ends up cooking from my site or not! :)

  8. Dianneon 02 May 2008 at 3:14 pm

    The round up looks great!

  9. Benon 02 May 2008 at 3:25 pm

Great roundup. Too bad I was also left alone :( It doesn’t matter I still had fun and learned something new. I am game for the next one again :)

  10. Minon 02 May 2008 at 5:55 pm

So much fun! Thank you for taking the time to organize these events! I just love discovering all this great new food!

Sorry to hear people aren’t playing nice…seems like they should just take responsibility (or let you know if something comes up) without your having to make extra efforts. (a reminder email as suggested above may help?) I would just suggest to individuals if they discover they won’t have time, to let you know ASAP. And don’t sign up if you don’t plan on cooking!

  11. Jescelon 02 May 2008 at 6:06 pm

You’re doing a great job, Nicole. It must really be frustrating to not get everybody’s cooperation, but I agree with Allison above. If it’s not too much trouble, you could try sending everyone a reminder message a day or two before the deadline and see if it helps…

  12. Elizabethon 02 May 2008 at 8:13 pm

Excellent roundup, Nicole. Too bad that some people who signed up didn’t come through on their posts. (Is it possible that email was lost? We’ve been having a devil of a time with our email in the past few weeks; I’m pretty sure that I’m not receiving everything.)

I like Min’s advice to refrain from signing up if you don’t plan on participating. Maybe you should put something along that lines near the top of the T&C guidelines post just before or after “*This takes place every month, and the round-up is posted on the 1st day of the following month.*”

Maybe once the participants find out who their partners are, they could contact each other via their blogs just to confirm that they know who their partners are?

  13. KCon 02 May 2008 at 9:15 pm

    Hi Nicole:

Great roundup. Thanks for hosting T&C.

My partner didn’t cook or post a recipe of mine.

She had a death in her family.

  14. KCon 02 May 2008 at 9:18 pm

I submitted before I finished my comment.

I loved taking part and enjoyed my partner’s blog. I will participate again in June.

    Thanks, again.

  15. stephon 03 May 2008 at 12:56 am

good looking round-up…looking forward to next time!

  16. Laurie Constantinoon 03 May 2008 at 2:14 am

You’ve done another beautiful roundup – your hard work in putting this together is much appreciated. As for people not fulfulling their responsibilities, that’s a hard one. Seems like people who sign up to do it but don’t, shouldn’t participate in future events. Since there is a week between the 24th deadline and the first of the month round-up, maybe you could e-mail all participants and identify the blogs that have been forgotten and see if there are volunteers to adopt one of the forgotten blogs and post about them by the 28th of the month? Or maybe people can volunteer ahead of time to be emergency pitch hitters in case someone gets forgotten? There isn’t a perfect solution, that’s for sure.

  17. Allisonon 04 May 2008 at 9:31 am

I like Laurie’s suggestion… I would definitely volunteer to be a back-up person to take over for at least one person whose blog got forgotten. Of course, I don’t know if that would be too much work for you.

Also, if you ever need help with Taste and Create stuff, please let me know! I’m always glad to help out. :)

  18. Veronicaon 04 May 2008 at 11:53 am

Thanks again, Nicole! I rarely participate in food blog events, but this has become my favourite. I think a reminder a few days before is a good idea. Laurie’s idea to adopt an orphan is a good one too; I’de volunteer for that.

  19. doodleson 05 May 2008 at 4:47 am

Knowing how much work this is…….the roundup is very much appreciated. Look forward to next month.

Sounds like we are all here to help when needed….we are just an email away.

  20. Minon 05 May 2008 at 6:34 am

Hmm. Just checked back to see what everyone’s saying…it’s a tough one. I know things come up in our lives, communication is key! I also like the idea of filling in, I’d be glad to help. I had a GREAT cooking adventure! Thank you again for all you do to make this happen!

Perhaps also you could keep a list of those people who don’t follow through, and if they mess up a couple times, just don’t pair them up–don’t let them participate in future events? (more work for you, I know, but it’s a difficult situation)

  21. Minon 05 May 2008 at 6:36 am

And sheesh, people, let’s give Nicole a break! Send her what she needs! Don’t make her work any harder!

  22. KJon 05 May 2008 at 7:47 am

Lovely roundup Nicole. thanks for your hard work.

  23. Katie B.on 05 May 2008 at 11:02 pm

As one of the participants that dropped the ball – I am really sorry! This past month just got away from me. I know how bad it feels to be neglected (as I was the month before) – so I will make every effort to come through next round – even so far as to make something from my current partner’s blog, so that she feels the love!

That said, I whole-heartedly agree that repeat offenders shouldn’t be given the chance to play. Here or there is one thing (it happens), but to let people down over and over again… it’s just plain rude.

  24. Bellini Vallion 06 May 2008 at 5:38 pm

Great lineup this month. Your event is sure gaining in popularity. It is a lot of work to keep this event up as it grows. I suppose that one option is to email those that haven’t submitted an entry as Laurie mentioned by the deadline…this creates extra work for you though that’s for sure
:( Not sure there is an easy solution because of the pairing up factor of the event. Maybe those that are participating could submit to you the recipe they are going to be making from their partners blog, then you would know beforehand who is a no show….this is not a perfect solution either…you have me stumped:D

  25. Caraon 07 May 2008 at 2:19 am

I am so sorry I dropped the ball on this one. It is truly a great roundup and I regret not being a part of it. I will admit that my blog in general has been a bit neglected lately and I just haven’t been myself in the kitchen – I need my time back! I think a reminder would be helpful, if that wouldn’t be too much work. And I do think repeat offenders should not be allowed to participate in the future.
