We really like pizza around here. Back when I only had one kid, we used to make pizza all the time. Now, I have a second child and not as much time during the day to make my favorite homemade pizza dough. So, when Foodbuzz asked us to put our own spin on pizza for Project Foodblog’s fifth challenge, I was happy to get baking again.
I decided to make a pizza that revolved around two of my favorite ingredients: chicken wings and ranch dressing, but not in a form that you would normally suspect.

We had tortillas from the night before when I made hummus, and my husband Googled “simple pizza sauce” and found a fantastic recipe, and the tortilla pizza was born.

I followed my basic recipe here, but instead of just using Gouda cheese, so sprinkled on some shredded cheddar cheese and some dry oregano on top.
When I was in high school and lived in Texas there was a pizza place in my neighborhood that made pizzas that tasted just like this. Who knew I could recreate it at home with such ease!!

The egg is the top of the sombrero and the corn and kidney beans denote that it’s Mexican (in Germany). Anything with kidney beans and corn in Germany is classified as Mexican, but I can’t complain, it’s tasty.

I wanted it to taste like a cheese burger but have the “feel” of a pizza. So, I nixed the idea of a traditional pizza sauce and went for a traditional burger sauce…and it came out tasting like a barbecued cheeseburger – held like a pizza.
