hey cupcake! of Austin – review

While on my vacation in the US my brother took me to a cupcake bakery in Austin called hey cupcake! I’d never been to a bakery before that only specialized in cupcakes.

I have had my fair share of bakery cupcakes in my life time, so I wasn’t expecting too much. Then, I took the first bite…

They were heavenly! So perfectly moist, but not gooey, with the perfect creamy frosting on top – I was in heaven! Continue Reading »

New York Inside-Out Roll – recipe

(my son loves sushi…that’s his hand trying to steel some)

Last weekend, the day I cut my finger, my husband and I went out on our first date in over a year. It gets to be difficult to go out when you have a little one, but this was a special event that we wanted to go to.

Each year in Fürth there is a Sommer Nachts Ball (Summer Night’s Ball) in the city park (photo gallery here). The park is roped off so you can only enter with a ticket, and attendees must be in suite and tie or tux (for guys) and a ball dress or cocktail dress (for ladies) – those who are not appropriately dressed are sent home to change. (I will update with pictures soon!)

There were 4 or 5 stages with live music of all different kinds, dance floors, a cocktail bar in the rose garden, catering, bbq (yeah…that was kind a weird..ball dresses and bbq…), beer, wine, fireworks…it was fabulous. Time went by so quickly that we could hardly believe it!

Not knowing how expensive the food at the ball would be, we decided to go and eat at a local sushi restaurant that we had never tried because it was a bit more pricey than the others we are familiar with. But, being a special occasion and being all dressed-up, we decided to go give it a try.

We were both thrilled by the sushi at Wasabi!! It was fabulous and they have many of their own creations that were fabulous! I am planning on going back for my birthday.

One of the rolls we tried was the New York Roll. It was sweet and savory and nutty all at the same time. We both loved it, so I decided to make it at home – it seemed easy enough…and it was! Continue Reading »

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yup, it’s my birthday today! I still get excited about it. Why? Not because I’m a year older, but b/c it’s a day centered around ME. It’s the only day in the year when I can say “…but it’s my birthday…”. Continue Reading »

Enchilada Restaurante y Bar Mexicano – Nürnberg

We were walking around Nürnberg the other afternoon and we came accross Enchilada Restaurante y Bar Mexicano.  It looked really nice on the outside – like it belonged on the board walk of some sea-side town.  So, we took an outdoor seat (so that the baby stroller would not be in anyone’s way), and watched the sun set as we ate our meal.  So far, this is the best Mexican/TexMex food I have ever had outside of Texas or Mexico, and their prices were decent.  I defiantly recommend this to anyone who loves yummy well presented food.  I love pretty food, what can I say, and they defiantly do a great job in presentation!

BTW- their fajitas plate is supposed to be for 1 person, but my husband and I split it and we were very satisfied.  So, if you get the fajitas to split, enjoy an appetizer, or fill up one some of their beautiful cocktails!

Fürther Krapfen from Der Beck

These jelly-filled doughnuts from Der Beck shaped like shamrocks for Fürth’s 1000th birthday celebration. They were really yummy, but I was disappointed by the proportion of jelly-filling to dough – there was just much to little jelly. T

hey were worth having once.

My Favorite Restaurant for 2006

Very few of you may have ever heard of a restaurant called Leños Y Carbon. That’s because it’s located in Cali, Colombia. Jacob and I went on vacation there in January of 2006 to visit my family (great grandparents, grandma, aunts, cousins, etc) since he’d never met any of them.

The warm, yet cool-breeze at the shopping mall Chipichape in Cali makes the shopping and dinning experience there quite unique and comfortable. The mall has an open-air environment and when you look up to the west you can see the lush green mountains staring down at you.

So, I found myself waiting in line with my family and trying to decide what to eat. We had previously had the “Baby Beef”, but this time we wanted to try something new.  Jacob and I split pork ribs marinated in tropical fruits…it was heavenly! I don’t always like to venture and try new things…I’m not too fond of fruit on meat, but Jacob likes to try new things and
I figured it couldn’t hurt. One day I will try to recreate it myself.  It came with a side of potato, rice, salad, and sweet platanos.  I wish I could go there right now…

All-You-Can-Eat at Our Place

Published by myamii under -Restaurant Reviews, Reviews

So far, I haven’t found any sites that review restaurants and offer images of those places around the city where I live in Germany…so I figured I’d start doing it. We don’t dine out very often, since I really love the foods I cook, but every once in a while I will throw in a restaurant review.

Today I am featuring Our Place in Fürth www.ourplace-fuerth.de . Unfortunately, they don’t have their menu online, but I was able to get one emailed to me.

In general, I find the food there good. We go to Our Place when we don’t feel like making our own American food or for those dishes where we can’t find ingredients for them at our local stores. The meals I like the most there are the burgers, Texas fries, any of their appetizers, and their baby back ribs with their BBQ sauce. And, the portions are really big! Jacob and I usually get an appetizer and then split a burger and fries.

But, last night we didn’t get burgers, instead we got their “All You Can Eat Spare ribs, Baby back ribs, Chicken wings, Garlic baguette, French Fries, Cole Slaw, & BBQ Sauce” which they offer on Mondays and Wednesdays…I was in heaven. The great thing about their all-you-can-eat deal is that it’s not a buffet…so your food comes to you warm and hasn’t been sitting on some hot plate underneath funny colored lighting. You are served a cutting bored covered with everything, or you can ask them to leave certain things out. I, personally, don’t care for their chicken wings, so I leave those out. At anytime during your meal you can just ask for more of whatever you want and they’ll bring it. All this for €9,90 (tip and tax included) plus whatever you want to drink…and they have a large selection of beers, wines, liquors, cocktails, and non alcoholic beverages.

Other specials that they offer are: happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays and “Pimp My Burger” on Sundays. They are closed on Tuesdays.

So, if you’re even in Fürth (or in Nürnberg) and you find yourself craving that little piece of the USA, this is a great place to go. Not everything is authentic American food, but when the US is over 5000 miles away, this hits the spot.
