*Here is another blog post I found in my Drafts folder from August 2007!! It’s not only cheap, but delicious, filling, and very easy to make. Because I do not own a grill, I broiled the skewers in my oven.*
Usually my husband and I usually reserve Greek dining for special occasions since Greek restaurants can be a bit pricey (in our town). Then I got to thinking, I can cook Greek too…and it’s amazing how simple and inexpensive it is!
Here I have made Suvlaki, Tzatziki, and Salad and I served it with some döner bread that I bought at my local Turkish store. The souvlaki recipe is based on Suvlaki Hoirino on About.com.

In search of a really creamy egg salad sandwich, I set to the web to see what I could find. And, while I didn’t find 1 single recipe that appealed to me, I cut and pasted many different recipes together to come up with my own. In the end, I had a perfectly cream sandwich spread that was gobbled-up in record time.
My only personal wish was that I could have added some dill relish for a slightly tangy flavor, which is how I grew-up eating egg salad. But, not having any dill pickles or relish available at the time, I left it out. Continue Reading »

I wanted to share these ice cream sandwiches that my husband and I made together over a week ago. They still need some tweaking before they are good enough to give you the recipe to…such as baking time and ice cream amounts, but I thought you’d enjoy some nice images today.

This is a favorite sandwich of mine: meat, vegetables, and guacamole spread. This topped with some fresh alfalfa sprouts is pure heaven…unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a hold of any or grow any in time.
Ingredients for 1 sandwich:
2 slices of Bread, toasted
2 Tablespoons Homemade Guacamole (recipe here)
Mustard
3 extra thin slices Turkey Salami
3 extra thin slices Smoked Ham
1 slice Emmentaler (Swiss) Cheese
shredded Lettuce
3-4 wedges Herb-marinated Artichoke Hearts
3-4 Garlic & Herb-marinated Kalamata Olives
Directions:
Spread the guacamole on one slice of bread and some mustard on the second slice of bread.. Top with the meats, cheese, and vegetables.
Enjoy.

The other day I pulled out a leg/thigh piece, defrosted it in the microwave, took the skin off, pulled off the meat, and shredded it by hand. I ended up with about 3 cups worth of shredded turkey.
I can’t remember where I saw this idea, but it sure was a fabulous-tasting one – and quite a delightful break from the traditional turkey over and over again.
I’d also like to wish you all a merry Christmas – will post more on the 29th of December – Christmas is 3 days long in Germany (25,26,27)!! So, in case you making turkey for Christmas as well, this is a great left-over recipe. Continue Reading »

I used to be a vegetarian…and am not any more, but I do still enjoy eating meat free. So, when I saw this interesting-looking recipe for a walnut-lentil burger – I just had to bite -literally!!
We were all just so taken aback by the delicious flavors and texture. It is not meant to try to imitate meat (like many veggie burgers try to) it is meant to taste de-li-ci-ous! Continue Reading »

It was so delicious!! The only difference is that I made my chicken in the broiler instead of on the grill.

You can find this delicious recipe here at Dine and Dish.

In the past I have had the pleasure of tasting a green curry for the first time – wow was it spicy!! So, I was a bit worried these burgers would be too spicy for my son to eat…boy was I wrong! He loved them. We liked them too.

I came across the recipe here. However, they have a yogurt-based sauce recipe that we tried and were very disappointed by. I also meant to make the mango chutney that they recommend, but I go so caught-up in getting ready for our trip to the US that the mangoes turned into a delicious sorbet.
I know…this is not exactly a burger on a bun. I ran out of bread and decided to enjoy it over a bed of rice.

So not to throw anything away, I decided to buy some beef and whip out some of my homemade ketchup and make some cheese steak sandwiches.

I doubt these are anything close to the original. In fact, I’ve had cheese steak sandwiches in Philadelphia these were no where close. But, they were good and we did enjoy them.

I followed my own basic recipe (here), but had to use strips of meat instead of thinly sliced meat, American cheese for provologn, and hot dog buns instead of a large baguette cut in half.
